NYACK, N.J. – Paul Doctor, husband, son, brother, uncle, educator and colleague, died Wednesday, Jan. 20, following a brief and unexpected illness. He was 42.
He was born and raised in Mount Vernon. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree from Pace University and a master’s from the College of New Rochelle. He embarked on a teaching career in the South Orangetown school dDistrict, where he met his wife, Patricia Cardenas.

BEACON, N.Y. – Father Alfonso Pagliara, Order of Friars Minor Capuchin, died Tuesday, Jan. 19, at St. Luke’s Hospital, Newburgh, New York. He was 90.
He was born in Chatham, N.J., on July 27, 1925, the son of the late Alfonso and Henrietta Mari Pagliara. He made his first profession of vows Aug. 21, 1977, at St. Lawrence Friary, Beacon. He was ordained on May 16, 1981, at St. Francis Church in Hackensack, N.J., by Bishop Frank Rodimer. STAMFORD, Conn. – Stamford resident Palma Catherine Sudo died Thursday, Jan. 14. She was 87.
She was born in Stamford on Palm Sunday, April 1, 1928, the daughter of Domenic and Catherine Annetta. She worked in her family's small grocery store until her marriage to Stanley (Stash) Sudo in 1955, when she moved to Greenwich. Known as Pam to her friends, she and Stash were avid gardeners of vegetables, flowers and a grape vine. Each season, crops were shared with friends and family. WAPPINGERS FALLS, N.Y. – Milagros Morales of Wappingers Falls died Wednesday, Jan. 20. She was 90.
Visitation will be held Saturday, Jan. 22, from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at the Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 East Main St., Wappingers Falls. A funeral service will take place Sunday, Jan. 23, at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will take place Sunday at Wappingers Rural Cemetery, West Main Street, Wappingers Falls.

MILLBROOK, N.Y. – Catherine Mary Culkin, of Millbrook, died Tuesday, Jan. 19, at the Hospice of Orange and Sullivan Counties. She was 61.

Born in Kraszkowice, Poland, she lived there and in Germany before coming to the United States in 1956. She was a World War II survivor. She was a seamstress for Val Mode Company in Passaic for 25 years and retired in 1983. John Monaco, 86, Former Lyndhurst Fire Chief
LYNDHURTS, N.J. – John Monaco, former fire chief of the Lyndhurst Fire Department and Engine Co. No. 3, the “Hill Company” died Tuesday, Jan. 19. He was 86.
He was born in his Valley Brook Avenue home, where he had been a lifelong resident. He was the owner of Plaid Motors, which he established in 1968, along with his wife, Hilda. For more than 48 years, he worked in the shop with his sons Frank, John and Robert and later, his grandson, John III.
