John J. (Jack) Gavin, 73, Suffern Resident
WANAQUE, N.J. – John J. (Jack) Gavin, formerly of Suffern, died Sunday, Jan. 24, in Wanaque. He was 73.
He was born Aug. 30, 1942, in Brooklyn, N.Y., to John and Marion Gavin. He served in the Navy and then worked at AT&T until his retirement.
He is survived by his sister, Carol Consiglio; four children, Sean, Timothy, Michael and Shannon; eight grandchildren; and daughter-in-law Gina Gavin, who cared for him during a long illness.
Visitation will be Friday from 4-7 p.m. at Scarr Funeral home in Suffern. A private memorial Mass will be held at a later date.
Fire Lt. Anthony Mangone, 48, Yonkers Resident
YONKERS, N.Y. – Fire Lt. Anthony Mangone, of Yonkers, died suddenly Tuesday, Jan. 26. He was 48.
He was born Aug. 31, 1967 to Edward and Catherine (Reitano) Mangone.
He was hired as a Yonkers firefighter on Nov. 7, 1994 and promoted to lieutenant on Jan. 30, 2012.
For many years, he worked in Ladder 71 and most recently was assigned to special operations. He was a master mason with King Hiram 12 in Shelton, Connecticut. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps and was very active in the community and charities.

HACKENSACK, N.J. – Margaret E. Smith Williams, a lifelong resident of Hackensack, died Sunday, Jan. 24. She was 90.
She was a parishioner of Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church, where she was a member of the Rosary Society.
She was the wife of the late James F. Williams, Sr. ,who died in 1997.

Stamford-Based AmeriCares, Nestlé Sending Water To Flint
STAMFORD, Conn. – AmeriCares and Nestlé Waters North America are delivering bottled water to Flint, Michigan, where the tap water is tainted with lead.
Two truckloads carrying 70,000 half-liter bottles are on the way to the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan, which works with 75 Flint partners, including church pantries, soup kitchens, shelters and community centers. About 100,000 families in Flint are affected by the crisis, including many low-income families.
