Robert Baras, 85, Westport Resident WESTPORT, Conn. – Robert (Bob) Baras, of Westport, died Sunday, Feb. 7. He was 85. He was born in Brooklyn, New York, to Esther (Hertan) and Solomon Baras. Both were Romanian immigrants. He was raised in the Bronx and graduated from DeWitt Clinton High School, and then attended City College. He was a longtime resident of Manhattan and Tourette-Sur-Loup, France. He was married to his wife of 49 years, Francine Baras. Known by family and friends as "Speed," he served as a lieutenant in the Army Air Force and later graduated from Yale University in 1948. He worked in advertising sales at NBC in New York for most of his business career.
