Hasbrouck Heights Scouts Have Annual Pinewood Derby HASBROUCK HEIGHTS, N.J. – The Cub Scouts of Pack 17 in Hasbrouck Heights had their annual Pinewood Derby Race Saturday, Feb. 6, and proudly showed off their cars with designs ranging from slick and streamlined to fun and creative. Ridgefield Seeks More Public Input On Allowing Bikes On Rail Trail RIDGEFIELD, Conn. – A second hearing regarding allowing bicycles onto the rail trail will be held Wednesday, Feb. 17, at 7:30 p.m. in the lower level conference room of Ridgefield Town Hall, reports The Ridgefield Press. Board of Selectmen members are holding the hearings to get the views of residents about allowing bicycles on the trail before the town signs an agreement with the owner of the trail, Eversource, that would allow the trail to be designed for bicycling, Ridgefield Press reports. Helgi P. Creighton, 77, Hyde Park Resident HYDE PARK, N.J. – Helgi P. Creighton, of Hyde Park, died Friday, Feb. 12. She was 77. She was born in Podrala, Estonia, on May 9, 1938, to Voldemar and IIse (Patzig) Pass. She emigrated with family during World War II and traveled through displaced persons camps before she settled in the U.S. in 1949.  She was a 1957 graduate of Poughkeepsie High School. She worked for General Motors for 35 years.  She is survived by her son, James and daughter, Kelli (Scott); granddaughter, Nicole (Brian); and great-granddaughter, Chastity. She was predeceased by her husband, James and brother, Yuri.  …

R.J. Bailey Students Learn About Dance During Black History Month GREENBURGH, N.Y. – Students at the Richard J. Bailey School in White Plains worked with the famous Dance Theatre of Harlem recently to learn about dance, history of dance and how it pertains to black history. Teaching artists Theara Ward, Zalika Warren and Lettie Battle explained the African diaspora to students and played dancing games to help them understand how the migration of African-Americans from the southern U.S to the northeast impacted families, communities and American culture.

Poughkeepsie Crews Repair Water Main Break POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – A water main that broke Saturday morning, Feb. 13,  in Poughkeepsie was repaired by city crews on Sunday, reports the Poughkeepsie Journal. Mayor Rob Rolison says the breakat the South Hamilton and Holmes streets intersection, may have been caused by the frigid temperatures, Poughkeepsie Journal reported.
