Peter Okal, 93, Yonkers Resident
YONKERS, N.Y. – Peter Okal, a longtime resident of Yonkers, died Monday, May 30. He was 93.
He was born in 1923, in Smerekowiecz, Poland. He was a survivor of the German occupation and came to the United States for a new and better life. He was retired from Ciba-Geigy Corp. in Ardsley.
He was the father of Jenny Seckar, Janina Okal, Jan Okal and Roman Okal; grandfather of Walter Palkoci, Andrzej Okal and Piotr Okal; great-grandfather of Patricia Okal and Przemek Okal; and uncle of Marysia Astriab and the Astriab Family, Steve, Irene and Peter.

SCARSDALE, N.Y. – Cecyl "Cindy" Smith Bassett, of Scarsdale, died Saturday, May 28. She was 93.
She was born in 1922, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, to Elizabeth Hudson Smith and Sydney Salisbury Smith. She attended New York University and graduated from Katharine Gibbs. She served on the board of directors and was a Sunday school teacher at the First Church of Christ Scientist in Scarsdale for many years. She was a 50-year member of Manursing Island Club and a member of the Scarsdale Golf Club, where she enjoyed playing bridge with her many friends.

PORT CHESTER, N.Y. – Rene Prochelle, of Port Chester, died Wednesday, May 25. He was 86.
He was born Aug. 8, 1929, in Valdivia, Chile, to Eric and Katya (Otto) Prochelle. He received his education in Valdivia and Buenos Aires. He started his lifelong career in ocean transportation in Buenos Aires. He came to the United States in the early 1960s. He married Kirsti Pettersen in 1971. After he retired, he volunteered at the now closed United Hospital in Port Chester for many years. He also tutored Spanish for several years.

WESTPORT, Conn. – Bret C. Thomas, formerly of Westport, husband of Kris C. Thomas, died Sunday, May 29 at Bridgeport Hospital following a two-year battle with cancer. He was 57.

She was born July 25, 1989, in Norwalk, daughter to Marie (Lane) Horne and Timothy Horne. She graduated from Brien McMahon in 2007. She had a great love for all animals and is survived by one dog, Kassi, and three cats, Jake, Pumpkin and Ginger. She also had a love for all kinds of music and going out with her friends.
