Man Charged After Larceny Spree In Glen Cove
A 35-year-old man was charged after a rash of larcenies on Long Island, according to police.
Ten car larcenies occurred in August so far, many of these when the cars were left unlocked, according to the Glen Cove Police Department.
The incidents led police to beef up their patrols in the area. Overnight Friday, Aug. 23, seven vehicles were illegally entered on the Glen Cove side of Frost Pond Road, said police.
On Saturday, Aug. 24 at 11:05 p.m., police arrested a man they reportedly observed inside a vehicle on Elm Avenue in Glen Cove, according to police.

A longtime childcare provider from the area died Sunday, Aug. 25, at age 54.
Kellie Wood died at her home in Dover Plains.
Wood was a childcare provider at Astor Head Start Dutchess County Day Care for over 20 years.
Born on January 20, 1965, in Pittsfield, Mass., she was the daughter of the late Richard G. and Ann Marie (Sitzman) Vickery.
She was a graduate of Dover High School class of 1983. On May 27, 1984, in Pound Ridge, she married Roslyn J. Wood who survives at home.

Popular Westchester Musician Robert Lopez Dies Suddenly At 40
A well-known musician from Westchester who grew up on Long Island, Robert L. Lopez, died unexpectedly on Thursday, Aug. 22, at age 40.
He was born on Aug. 22, 1979, in Port Jefferson. He was a New Rochelle resident and was "a dedicated and loyal employee for the local Shoprite," the obituary said.
Lopez was a passionate Yankees fan and had a love for music. He composed his own lyrics, enjoyed singing his songs and playing his guitar. He performed regularly at clubs in New York City.

A Yonkers native and graduate of Yorktown High School, James M. Thompson Jr., died at his home in Brewster on Wednesday, Aug. 21, at age 51.
Thompson was born on March 11, 1968.
He was an over the road truck driver for Swift Transportation and a member of the Knights of Columbus, Fr. James T. Breen Council #7490 of Sacred Heart in Patterson. He enjoyed working on cars, and fishing said the obituary.

A Valhalla PTA photographer and historian who was a native of White Plains, Linda Reiter, died Friday, Aug. 23 at age 35.
Linda Valentina Reiter, of Valhalla, was born in White Plains on Feb. 14, 1984, to Emanuela and Bartolomeo Scalici.
Reiter graduated from Bucknell University with a bachelor of science degree in mathematics in 2006.
