Newark Man Killed After Exiting Moving Car On Route 78: Njsp A 20-year-old Newark man was killed after he left a car while it was in motion on Route 78 on Friday, April 11, authorities said. At 11:11 p.m., officers responded to Route 78 West at Exit 55 in Newark, Jeffrey Lebron, a spokesman for the New Jersey State Police said. Jason Ellis exited a Nissan Rogue while it was heading westbound on Route 78, Lebron said. As a result of the impact, Ellis sustained fatal injuries, Lebron said. The investigation is ongoing, Lebron said.

FAA Grounds NY Helicopter Operator After Deadly Hudson River Crash The Federal Aviation Administration has issued an emergency order grounding the company behind the helicopter flight that crashed into the Hudson River in Jersey City last week. The FAA issued its order against New York Helicopter Charter Inc. Monday, April 14, following the crash that killed six people, including three children, on Thursday, April 10. 16-Year-Old Robbed, Assaulted By Five Men: Montclair Police A 16-year-old was robbed and assaulted by five people in Montclair last week, authorities announced on Tuesday, April 15. Officers responded to Elm Street and Orange Road where they found the 16-year-old boy with multiple lacerations to his head, Montclair Police said. The boy said he had been beaten and robbed of his belongings in an alley on Lackawanna Plaza. Surveillance footage showed the boy in the alley, at which point five men approached him, assaulted and took his shoes, backpack and cellphone, police said. Car Removed After Crashing Into River: Downe Twp Fire/Rescue (Photos) A car had to be pulled from the Maurice River in Millville on Monday, April 14, authorities said. Downe Twp Fire/Rescue and Dive Team said they responded to the scene following the crash, with the occupant removed from the vehicle prior to their arrival. Divers searched the area around the vehicle to ensure there were no other occupants, and assisted the tow company with hooking the vehicle up for removal, Downe Township Fire/Rescue and Dive Team said.

Woman Airlifted After Car Hit By Train: Franklin Township Police A woman was airlifted to a hospital after a train crashed into a vehicle in Gloucester County on the evening of Monday, April 14, authorities said. The woman had severe injuries following the collision between a commercial train and her car in Newfield Borough, Franklin Township police said. The crash caused the closure of Catawba Avenue in both directions and West Boulevard between Catawba Avenue and Greenwood Avenue, police said.

Toms River Man Started Fire In Living Room: Prosecutor A 59-year-old Toms River man is facing charges of aggravated arson after he intentionally started a structure fire on the evening of Monday, April 14, authorities said. Atlantic County Declared Disaster Area After Severe Drought: USDA Four Southern New Jersey counties have been declared disaster areas as farmers grapple with severe drought, the United States Department of Agriculture said. Atlantic, Cape May, Cumberland and Gloucester counties were declared primary counties eligible after suffering a drought of eight or more weeks last year, the USDA said. Burlington, Camden, Ocean and Salem counties were declared contiguous disaster areas.
