Bergenfield School Rallies For First-Grader With Diabetes BERGENFIELD, N.J. – Lincoln Elementary School students are pulling together to support first-grader Hazel Machado, who was diagnosed with Type-1 diabetes earlier this year. Staff from the JDRF came to Lincoln Elementary Thursday to teach the school about Type-1 diabetes. In Machado’s honor, the school will participate in a JDRF Kids Walk Thursday, May 26 to raise moneyto help find a cure for Type-1 diabetes. Bright Idea: Stamford Residents Enjoy Successful Light Bulb Swap STAMFORD, Conn. – Nearly 1,000 residents recently participated in the city’s first-ever light bulb swap at the Stamford Government Center, where they exchanged nearly 5,000 incandescent light bulbs for new, energy-efficient Energy Star LED bulbs, free of charge. Each Stamford resident who swapped out five of their home’s old, inefficient light bulbs is expected to save more than $50 in annual energy costs.
